MSU @ 50 - UNAMIN GOES GOLDEN

(SUNAMIN ke-50 KAWARSAN "EMAS" PASUKAN KHUSUS)

DIRGAHAYU MSU!!!

Fifty years is a milestone for an institution. Half a century of existence - not bad for a school. Few would rival this record in Gen. Santos; Notre Dame of Dadiangas University back then in 2003, and Ramon Magsaysay Memorial College again in 2008. This time it was MSU's time to shine gold.

"and in the yellow corner..."

The general atmosphere and mood was festive; particularly the Kolej Pendidikan (Education), having drawn first blood with the Miss MSU the night before.

The first day of the intramurals, opening ceremonies and formalities aside, has always been reserved for the cheerdance competition, the first real battle between the colleges in the intramurals.

While MSUans were partying, eating out, and simply making their presence felt... in KCC... the professors and higher ups had their own party in the high school department...

a day in the life of a dorm girl - part 2

(UNAMIN ke-50 KAWARSAN EMAS SPECIAL EDITION - PART 2 of 2)

IMG_5586b

As mentioned in the first part, an open house was held among dorms in the MSU campus. Every year, girls and boys opened their homes away from home for everyone to see.

In the first part, we showed you a day in the life of a dorm girl by exhibiting the mundane features of their lives inside the main dorm. This part continues by showing now their rooms and how they looked that day.

a day in the life of a dorm girl

Sugeng rawuh - 2

Sugeng rawuh!

As part of the 1st ever Balik-MSU Tambler, the main girls' dorm - like others, both boys' and girls', hosted an open house. Halls that were once inner sanctum to only girls became available to visitors of all genders. Males, whether kekasihs, or just simply party crashers like me jammed at every room, hoping to get a glimpse at how these girls lived.

As I was taking the pusat jeep back to MSU, dark clouds loomed and threatened my arrival there with a downpour.

When it rains, it pours. Right on top of Kampong Fatima and MSU.

The jeep came right in the middle of the party. Because the mostly MSUan passengers didn't want to risk getting drenched, they negotiated the driver to take them to the road leading to the west gate. When we got to the intersection of that road, this scene unfolded at us:

IMG_4889
Road or river? You decide.

There was no road. In its place was a torrent of water. Don't let the small picture deceive you, the torrent seemed so powerful, even the jeep drivers were intimidated to cross it.

The smooth current you see is the actual concrete road drowned in the torrent; the flood is eating away at the sides. It ends at this intersection and so the water tumbles down like some kind of mini-waterfalls. An unsuspecting moped from upstream can send driver and passenger plunging face first into the murky waters if he doesn't look to carefully.

This trisikad guy decides to cross. He made it.

There were few people there because of the downpour. A little while later, school's out and people were now trying to go home. Kids were testing the torrent. A stranded schoolgirl decides to take her chances to wade the river home.

Before long, the MSUans on the jeep got fed up with waiting for the floods to subside. And so they too dared the torrent. At least the rain was out and the current was a little weaker now.

I was stranded a bit longer, before I hailed a moped to take me to the MSU jeeps - this time with little thought on setting down in MSU itself. It was 5:30 when I reached home.
